I am pleased to announce that watercolorist Michael Lyons has joined the Lyman-Eyer Gallery.  Michael Lyons is an award-winning illustrator and painter best known for his evocative watercolors. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005 and is a member of New York's historic Salmagundi Club. In the Fall of 2011, Michael was named one of Watercolor Magazine's "25 Artists to Watch." Michael was awarded two highly competitive artist residencies at the C-Scape Dune Shack (2007) as well as a more recent stay in the Fowler Dune Shack in Provincetown, MA. During these residencies, he lived alone in remote shacks on the Cape Cod National Seashore without electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing. Working primarily in watercolor, Michael's coastal landscapes reflect a recurrent theme in his work:  the distinction between solitude and loneliness.  I encourage you to peruse the watercolor paintings on the gallery web site by Michael Lyons.  

The Lyman-Eyer Gallery is proud to present Milarepa by Thomas Acevedo.  As the artist conveys ... "The legend is ... the great Yogi Milarepa spent many years living in isolation in a mountain cave. As part of his spiritual practice he began to see the contents of his mind as visible projections. His Inner demons of lust, passion and aversion would appear before him as gorgeous and seductive 'women' and  as well sorrow, anger, fear, and so on.  In the face of these temptations and horrors, rather then being overwhelmed, he would invite them in, welcome them in the moment of surrender and in the brilliant light of pure awareness the demons no longer plague him "when there resistance is gone, the demons are gone".  This painting contains three male figures and is truly a contemporary masterpiece.  Milarepa is currently available for purchase but will be held for inclusion in Thomas' two-person exhibition during the summer 2012.  I invite you to peruse all of the work by Thomas Acevedo on the gallery web site.
